WhatsApp changes the age limit of its users in the European Union.

The popular messaging app WhatsApp currently has an age limit of 13 for users all over the world, but is now banning users under the age of 16 from using the platform in the European Union starting from the 25th of May.

The enforced age limit will protect children from having their personal data collected for marketing purposes, or to create user profiles.

The age limit is part of the The EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) terms, which  will give people much more control over how companies use their information as well as have the right to erase personal data, this will also help the app in reaching a new high standard of transparency.

In the next few weeks the Facebook owned app will ask users to confirm their age once they are prompted to agree to the new terms of service.

Many people praised the social media platform for the change while others took to Twitter and Facebook to express their disappointment, stating that the app is an important part of their children’s social lives and that this update will only hinder their social communications and interactions

Macron Visits US

French president Emanuel Macron has paid the US a 3 day visit earlier this week to discuss several international matters including the Iran nuclear deal, climate change and the current situation in Syria.

The French president and his wife received a royal welcoming ceremony at the White House on Tuesday, with a 21 gun salute, a flute-playing fife and drum corps, in red-coated uniforms and tri-corner hats, marched by Trump and Macron and their wives, Melania Trump and Brigitte Macron.

During the state visit, Trump thanked France for joining the US and Britain in launching airstrikes in Syria earlier this month responding to the chemical weapon attacks held by Syrian president Bashar Al Assad.

During his visit, Macron held a speech to the US congress, where he is said to have criticized nationalism and isolationism, stating that these policies would have a global effect. The speech also subtly attacks Trump’s America first agenda. Macron was later given a 3 minute standing ovation for his speech.

The state visit has shown the development of a strong friendship between the two nations, and according to Trump it is “a testament to the enduring friendship that binds our two nations.”
